Final cake

This cake almost killed me.. Or I almost killed the cake! I had this idea/image in my mind and I could NOT make it work! Part of my problem is that I want the cake to taste good! I hate regular fondant so I was working with marshmallow.. Then I tried 2 separate recipes on the bottom layer... I should have just stuck with the tried and true! There were parts of the cake that I liked, like these roses. I spent SO much time on them!! Hours and hours making roses that were edible.. Hours trying to figure out the fondant, and hours putting it all together!

I refuse to post a full image of the cake! The bottom was the WORST thing EVER! Ugh I feel sick just thinking about it! After all my work I never did try the dern thing, but I was told it was delicious, I hope no one was lying to me =)

Oakland Temple

No this isn't the temple! It's a key lime cupcake that I made for St. Patrick's day... I know I say this about everything, but this was the yummiest!

Oakland Temple

Cute cute cute kids
The flowers are so pretty.. I wish I had the patience to plant my own garden... I would love to have these in my yard
After the temple we went to our favorite Saturday restaurant, SUBWAY, and hung out at Jack London square

Present Cake

I LOVE fondant (not the way it tastes... But it is SO amazing! You can create anything and it's SO easy! I've been trying to figure out how to make it taste better. Hopefully one day I will learn the secret (I haven't tried this cake yet! It's almost too pretty to eat!)

INSIDEOUTSIDE

Coyote Hills

On Saturday I went for a great run through Coyote Hills. It was such a nice day that I wanted to take Alex back after I got home. I know I should know this, but 3 miles for a little kid is FAR! I don't know why I always forget that my child can't walk very far!
I never go off the trail when I run so it was nice to walk around and just enjoy the scenery! My muddy butt.. We went onto a dirt trail and as we were walking this lady who was going the opposite direction said "The trail is really really muddy up ahead". I said "Thanks" and kept walking.. Well I wish I would have listened! I thought I could make it through the mud, but my flip flop got stuck, then when I pulled it up I flopped mud all over the back of me! Alex was laughing hysterically (why was I even in flip flops??). My feet and legs were really muddy too... But we ventured on.

Walking to the top of the hill

Yes I am a poser.. I blame my mother!
At the top we could see the bay! Next time we're going to walk down to it.
The marsh on the other side
The house at the entrance, I love old houses!

MoRe CaKe!

The Final cake for my final class (until I start again on Wed!)
I HATE roses! They are so hard for me.. I am sup
er uncoordinated.. So I had to hide my roses behind other flowers!
But the best part about this cake.. The inside of course! I made a chocolate buttermilk cake with strawberries and chocola
te pudding in the middle! Oh yum!
Then I decided that this cake was WAY too delicious to be frosted in butter cream! So I whipped up my delicious cream cheese frosting! Butter cream is just gross.. I get why it's used to make flowers and boarders, but it does not taste good! If anyone knows how to make a delicious butter cream, please let me know!

Cream cheese frosting isn't the prettiest, it just tastes the BeSt!!
Can you tell I'm missing Spring by my color choice?
I have no idea what Spring is going to be like in CA
I am thinking of Springs in UT
Tulips blooming (I love them)
Garden preparation beginning (Mom you better call Man-Well!)
Driving up into the mountains (to steal rocks!)
Rain (although we're getting plenty here)
I'm glad I'll get to see it for a few days!

10K

I did it!
I know a 10K isn't the most brutal race, but I am happy I actually did it (without stopping to die)! I loved running along the coast, the breeze coming off the water was SO nice, and I could taste the salty ocean air (or maybe that was just sweat dripping off my face.. EW!).
I'm just happy it's over! I need to start training for a half marathon, but I'd rather just run some 5Ks and call it good!

My fan club. They were so cute. I could hear the cheers as I ran toward the finish line "Run Rachel Run!", everyone should have their own cheering section! After the race when went to eat at Pasta Pomodoro.
The pasta isn't the greatest ever, but the bread and the pesto dip.. Makes the trip worth while! Gosh it's so good.. Now I'll be thinking about it all day..

After lunch,

The kids wanted to go to the beach.. I wanted to go home and sleep..
No that's not a hobo we found! It's me.. Trying to get some beach sleep!
It was SO VERY COLD! But the kids insisted on wearing their suits and getting in the water!

Yeah for the beach! Oh.. look at the freezing cold kids!

Half Moon

I love living so close to the ocean.. I can't believe it took me over a month to head out there (it has been raining A LOT!). On Saturday Alex and I packed up and finally headed for the coast. I love the drive to Half Moon because we get to go over a huge bridge (bridges are fUN!) and everything is so green!! We got lucky... The beach wasn't crowded which is unusual on such a nice day. The waves were GIGANTIC! I have never seen such BIG waves and it was one right after another! I get paranoid that Alex is going to get swept away, but he was really cautious.
There was also a lot of sea foam.. I'm semi-blond and when I first saw it I thought someone had dumped some dish soap in the ocean (hey it's possible right?). It looked like Alex could have been playing in the snow (which is something he wants to do!). The water was warmer than it normally is.. It was just a great day to go to the beach!
